The role of Computational Fluid Dynamics in HVAC industry

Caso de Grupo SSC - Computational Fluid Dynamics in HVAC

HVAC systems are widely used for comfort cooling and equipment environment control in different sectors like data centers, healthcare, and educational institutions, as well as commercial and industrial businesses. They consist of combinations of cooling, heating, humidification/de-humidification, and air moving components specifically designed to meet objectives including personnel comfort, efficient energy consumption, indoor air quality requirements, etc. In general, they are designed in an integrated form to efficiently manage and deliver conditioned air to the target space.

Fluid flow simulation coupled with equipment performance models aid in assessing and optimizing component design and airflow through HVAC equipment. With CFD, fluid flows can be simulated, and HVAC performance can be analyzed without installing the HVAC system or building its prototype. Hence, crucial problems can be identified, and solutions can be devised to enhance the HVAC performance within the conditioned space.

This presentation shows how the CFD is employed to predict the most common parameters in the design of HVAC systems like pressure drops, thermal conditions, and spot velocities and flow distributions for the optimization of HVAC Systems.
