Modern automobiles, aircraft, trains, and other complex systems require embedded software components that control the critical functions. The critical software components must be developed according to rigorous standards to avoid malfunctions under every operating scenario.These standards imply an enormous effort to verify that every step of development is well done. In average, developing critical software requires up to 4 times the effort to develop regular software.
